My Name is Ashley. I like to design things. This is my portfolio.
Originally from San Francisco but have made a new home in Brooklyn. Self-proclaimed music nerd and lover of punk rock. Embarking on a career as a digital designer. Currently accepting freelance work.
Death is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan that orginated in 1971. After a very long hiatus, the band experienced a revival in 2012 upon the release of the documentary, A Band Called Death. The film details the band as one of the first – if not the first - punk rock bands in the world. This design is a tribute to their band, inspired by their first album cover For All the World to See. For more information about Death, check out their website.
Joy Division was a British post-punk band that originated in 1976. Featured in this design is lead singer Ian Curtis. I drew inspiration from the design featured on the cover of Joy Division's final – and arguably most popular - album Unknown Pleasures. Joy Division remains one of the most celebrated rock bands of the post-punk era and their influence on popular music is still prevalent.
When both David Bowie and Prince – two of my favorite and the world's most celebrated musicians – passed away in 2016, I was compelled to a piece that brought both men together in one design. I took design characteristics from two of their classic works: for Prince, Purple Rain and for Bowie, Ziggy Stardust.
Audre Lorde Tribute
Overall, I'd say the purpose of this design is to celebrate femninism and militance. The woman's face depicted is my friend and colleague, Brooklyn writer DeQuaina Washington and the quote is a fairly famous one by prominent black feminist writer and activist, Audre Lorde. You can check out DeQuaina's work on her blog, ProsePunkDotCom.
Black Flag Tribute
Black Flag is an American punk rock band from Hermosa, Beach Calfornia that originated in 1976. Arguably one of the most notable and influential bands in the punk scene, Black Flag's music has endured the test of time. The background of this design is a collection of several of their album covers and at the forefront is as a re-envisioning of their logo, which is most often referred to as "the bars."
Surfbort Band Tribute
Surfbort is an American punk rock band based in Brooklyn, New York. After catching them open for The Dickies in the Fall of 2016, I felt a surge of inspiration and subsequently created this design as tribute to them. For more information about Surfbort, check out their Bandcamp page.
The Germs Album ReDesign
The Germs were an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, CA, that were active just three short years from 1977-1980. This design is a re-envisioning of the cover for their first and only album (GI), which was produced by the legendary Joan Jett. Lexicon Devil was the most popular song featured on (GI) and remains one of their most well-known works.
Bad Brains Tribute
Bad Brains are an American punk band that played a pivotal role in the American hardcore punk scene of the 1980s. Over the years, the Brains have influenced a variety of mainstream bands such as Beastie Boys, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more. This design is a tribute to them. I used red, yellow, and green colors common on all of their album covers, in this particular piece.
Sex, Lies, & Videotape Film Poster Redesign
Sex, Lies, & Videotape is the early work of renowned writer and director Steven Sodenberg. Another one of my all-time favorites, SLV remains an indie-cult classic. This design is my revisualization of the original film posters.
Deerhunter Band Tribute
Not to be confused with the film, Deerhunter is an American rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, best known for an experimental, ambient musical style. This design was inspired by the cover of one of their first albums
Cryptograms. For information about Deerhunter, check out their website.
