Shane Mauss Dot Com
Because a Bad Website Would be a Damn Shane
I had been a fan of Shane Mauss for about a decade before meeting him and subsequently working for him. Shane has been a stand-up comedian since 2004. Notable accomplishments include: three comedy specials, a number of comedy awards, and five appearances on the Conan O’Brien show. Shane is also an avid science enthusiast and has been interviewing scientists from a variety of disciplines on his weekly podcast Here We Are since 2014.
About three months into the pandemic, Shane took to social media seeking probono assistance for his websites. I answered his call and shortly after, became a part of his team. Shane needed help with two websites with different, but related problems: Shane Mauss Dot Com and the Here We Are podcast website.
The design and branding of Shane Mauss Dot Com hadn’t been refreshed in some years. When taking on the redesign and re-brand, I thought first about personality and messaging since Shane is multi-interest creative. The tone of his work always skewed clever but adventurous. It was important to employ an aesthetic that encapsulated the many personalities of Shane Mauss: color palette, design assets, approach. Purple was central in many of Shane’s previous projects the Here We Are podcast, the Psychonautics documentary, etc. Additionally, I designed a number of assets to demonstrate his many interests.
